Giving

“It is better to give than to receive.”
Said a wise man long ago,
Yet they put that wise man to death,
For crimes he did not know.
Yet his wisdom lives on,
and perhaps more than that,
We remember him this time of year,
By giving gifts in format.

Gifts for him, and gifts for her,
Gifts for them, and for us, we prefer.

But let us take a moment, and remember his words,
For in them we may find a gift, more precious than pearls.
What if he knew what it is that we each most need,
He taught love and forgiveness, for even your enemy.
Do you desire this Christmas, riches, peace, and joy?
Take a moment, read his words, and listen to his voice.
If you find them strange, arcane, or simply wrong,
This last thought consider, before you move on:

Just as you cannot become bitter by forgiving,
No one has ever become poor by giving.

Merry Christmas
