Happiness

I awoke from a good nap,
a really good nap,
a really needed nap.
I had dreams of childhood memories,
memories untouched,
for many years.
Memories of happiness, true and deep,
childhood happiness,
surrounded by happiness.
I long for such serenity,
to dwell amongst family,
in simple peace and subtle joy.
Such happiness has grown distant,
remembered only in dreams,
in a body exhausted.
Such memories are treasured by my soul,
and tempt my spirit,
more than all the world.

Some things I have been learning…

Adrenaline is a friend in times of stress.
Too much adrenaline exhausts with duress.
Anxiety is a friend that warns when life goes awry.
Persistent anxiety is a weary body’s desperate, persistent cry.

Rest is a necessity I am learning to embrace,
Life is neither a sprint nor a never-ending race.

Life is not always simple, and things are not always what they seem,
And true love is limited not by any pain or extreme.

A New Path I Need

Why pursue the things I do, that leave me tired and stressed?
When will I find some peace of mind, is contentment merely a jest?
Perhaps because it never was, to be found in what I seek.
So then, dear friend, please commend a path with joy and sleep.

The Storm

My heart hurts,
a feeling hard to describe,
as if I have been rejected,
and wounded inside.
My hopes destroyed,
as reality becomes clear,
what I wanted will not be,
yet what is I shall not fear.

Thunder and lightning flash and roll,
God moves, his purposes he unfolds.
In his plans thus will I trust,
and not in my own, who am but dust

The Source

Our greatest need is of love,
and its greatest source is above.
In all we seek we search for joy,
in this our strength we do employ.
In all our searching we long for peace,
that our security we might increase.
We know the beauty of persistent patience,
for all have needed others to be gracious.
How lovely is the propriety of kindness,
in those who for malice have only blindness.
We all esteem the quality of goodness,
and with such things are content to rest.
A friend knows the need of faithfulness,
without which a heart can be torn abreast.
The wise know the greatness of gentleness,
which the proud only feel in moments of weakness.
Like a raging fire is a man without self-control,
while those who walk in wisdom men do extol.

Alas, from what source can all such qualities come?
Those knowing their own heart, know only one.
